Jamie Lin

ABOUT

Jamie Lin is an artist that works in Tokyo, Japan. She primarily works within the digital realm of art; however, she currently discovered her interests in making mix-medium style of artworks. One of Jamie’s goals is to make artwork that would show diversity, which she explained that applying different elements onto her works would be the ideal way to present it to the audiences. With the influences from her aunt who works in the film industry, Jamie generously displays her talent in art with her plentiful ideas and unique styles, which also gained her many compliments and attentions from others. Jamie defines art as a bridge for people to think further into themselves, she is also aiming to show the audience new possibilities that art can bring to the world.

Artist Statement

When I see those artworks that were being displayed in the exhibition, I always wonder about their thoughts and progress while producing works. With the simple art styles at first look, those ideas behind it were often so well concerned that I can’t help but be amazed every time. Compared to those artists, I used to struggle with the reason that I make art. Yet later I found that the concept of art keeps developing in myself, I also noticed that having more experience with different artists and art styles is a major factor that helped me determine the direction for myself. Therefore, my goal of being an artist is to make artworks that would surprise people with its diversity. By the meaning of that, I hope people can eliminate their cognition of what they thought art should be like.

In overall, there are many similarities in my art in my opinion. While looking at my works, it’s easy to notice that there are illustrational elements in most of them. Drawing illustrations could be describe as one of my origins that helped me determine my dream of being an artist, however, I used to think that the ideal artwork should be presented in perfect skills, which sketches and illustrations are not proper enough to be presented to others. Yet, art could be in any form, which means that it doesn’t have a specific way of creating it. It gave me the confidence to include illustrations in my artworks, and also became one of my own characteristics.

After many years of learning and experiencing art, my goal and future plan of being an artist was finally determined. By looking at my artworks, I hope people can understand more about the possibilities that art creations can become. I noticed that the concept people have for “art” is still limited to traditional art that is drawn physically with paints or pencil. There was a period in me that thought art should be drawn precisely with physical mediums as well. Therefore, I can also understand the persistence of those people who have the same thought. However, there are many other forms of art that are amazing and worth a look. To achieve my goal, I thought of applying mixed materials into artwork, which would be the ideal way to present my idea to the audience. By including other factors in traditional artworks, it could give the audience the chance to connect with both formats of art. Which is the reason that I attempted to combine physical and digital art in my recent artworks.

As I’m still a young generation who has just started my journey as an artist, I think there still remains a huge space for me to discover more about the details and process for reaching my goal. Since I was just starting my career as a creator, although I’m hoping to become an illustrator, my interests might change in the future. As a result, I hope to gain as much experience as possible now. In general, I’m satisfied with my artistic goal and where I am now. As for the future, I hope that I can keep observing different ideas, and become an artist that I can be proud of.
