Tahera, contemporary artist from Hyderabad, India, has always been utterly enchanted by the alluring realm of art. Tahera’s passion for creativity grew as she immersed herself in art classes and was encouraged by her family’s steadfast support. She drew inspiration from animations and the beauty of the simplicity of life all around her. 

The Chair – An Artists Practice

I work with the theme of “Chair”. For the past year I have been exploring this object in my works. This show is a culmination of the most important works from this exploration process and captures my inner struggles as well as the result of that struggle. I want the audience to step into my mind and have a glimpse into a year of my art practice. This show is also a glimps into my exploration and understanding of objects around us.

Artist Statement

I am driven by an unstoppable compulsion to create and explore. Art has been an integral part of my life since childhood, almost like second nature to me. In my artistic journey, I’ve come to see it as a separate entity, an extension of myself that constantly challenges and pushes me to delve deeper into the process of creation. 

As I grew and evolved during my university years, this entity became more pronounced, almost like a subconscious force, leading me to focus on everyday objects that often go unnoticed. These mundane objects surround us, yet we rarely take the time to truly see and appreciate them. Through my work, I strive to bring attention to these overlooked elements, instilling a sense of introspection in the audience and prompting them to reevaluate their relationship with the world. 

My creative journey has made me aware of my difference from others, and at times, I resented it. Being singled out as different was both a burden and a blessing. Because of this unique thought process creating came easily to me, but it also brings moments of agony. Embracing this ease of seeing and creating, I seek to explore it further through my art, inviting viewers to question their own perceptions and ways of seeing. 

As I’ve stopped running away from my creative impulse and fully embraced it, I’ve found a profound clarity and serendipity in the process of making. My work reflects the raw emotions and history within me, urging the audience to engage in introspection and reflect on the objects that shape their lives and their perception of the world. 

Ultimately, my art is a testament to the power of seeing and creating, inspiring others to explore their own creativity and appreciate the beauty in the seemingly ordinary and mundane. Through my work, I hope to ignite a dialogue between the viewer and the objects that surround them, fostering a deeper connection to our shared existence. Through my art, I seek to foster introspection, both within myself and among the viewers.
