Clemmons, Daniel Kato

I am Daniel Kato Clemmons, a multidisciplinary artist originally from Harrisburg, Pennsylvania, now based in Tokyo. My art combines media arts and 3D design, blending functionality with symbolism to explore themes such as identity, family dynamics, environmental narratives, and the journey from childhood to adulthood. In digital media, I craft immersive narratives using photo arrangements. My 3D designs combine natural and synthetic materials, frequently repurposing discarded objects. I employ an engineering-inspired approach, focusing on extensive research and meticulous planning. My style blends Surrealism, contrasts, and functional art to create symbolic harmony and visual intrigue through juxtaposition. I explore the impact of spaces on identity and the idea of home. My journey started with Architecture and Engineering, transitioned to Filmmaking, and progressed to Digital Media Arts. At Temple University Japan, I expanded from photography to 3D design, finding fulfillment in creating tangible, interactive artworks. The artwork “Passenger Couch” exemplifies my approach by transforming a car backseat into a couch, exploring movement within stillness and blending functionality with symbolism.
