Biography
Arisa is an artist born in Kobe, Japan in 1996. They are currently studying for a Bachelor of Art at Temple University Japan, and are close to graduate soon in 2022. Lived in multiple cities and countries in their lifetime, Arisa has made art since they were young from childhood. They studied biology initially in their life in high school, but changed their field of study to art as of 2020. Progressing from different mediums, their art has shifted from traditional drawings to 3D computer design.
Their work focuses on morphology and the relationship between texture and shape. For example, myriads of different textures are used in their art to showcase how softness in texture can be in contrast to the sharp hard edges that are showcased in their work. Ideas of how reality can manifest and transform in virtual reality are a common theme, and their work deconstructs and amplifies the relief and shapes that feels familiar to us. The unidentifiable shapes signify a sense of nostalgia or deja vu; a sense of once seeing the object in the past but not being able to fully come to understand what it is. Themes of tension between subjects, self identification in memories, a sense of understanding the unknown through methods of understanding patterns.
Arisa has collaborated and exhibited their works in different galleries and musicians. They have collaborated with small record labels and artists to make album covers and music videos with their works. They also have worked in photography, relief printmaking as well as painting which create a different effect to their usual 3D works.
