Shtul, Amit

My artwork examines historical events and cultural traditions in order to question what commonplace objects mean to life. I present my work in a way that the audience would feel comfortable to engage with it without providing answers

Through the use of game-like features, I aim to create a sense of playfulness in the artwork. In these game-like works, I try to experiment with different mediums to expand my own and the audience’s imagination. By its own nature, a game relies on chance. This contingency is the core of my creation process. When I am starting a new project, I need rules to guide the development of the artwork. The game provides these rules.

My process led me to develop the perception of art as a language that connects cultural differences. My artwork changes consciousness both at the individual and society levels. The audience has a role in contributing to the artwork because the structure allows social experiment. When other people get involved in the creation process, a new community is established — which serves as a mediating language that softens cultural gaps and makes new and surprising connections between people across the world.

Game

The exhibition titled “Game” questions what commonplace objects mean to our daily lives and explores the aspect of playfulness in art practices. It aims to look beyond the interpretation of gameplay to examine the outcomes of both physical and imaginary elements.
