Tsubata, Honoka

Honoka Tsubata is an experimental painter and digital illustrator based in Tokyo, Japan. She spent her teenage years in Pennsylvania, and the experience of living as a foreigner in a different country has made her question about her own identity as Japanese, and realized the unique beauty of Japanese culture. Honoka focuses on painting with oil on unconventional surfaces such as mirrors, and the key theme in her art is including inspiration from Zen Buddhism, as well as referencing traditional Japanese artwork such as Irezumi, and the concept of Nihon-teien (Japanese garden).
