Artist Statement
My artistic journey explores stress, existential awareness, and the interplay between action and inaction. From surviving corporate challenges in California to transplanting himself to Japan, I weave temporal stress into my narrative. In this foreign land, I seek solace in “existential awareness,” expressing myself through diverse art forms and earning accolades. My ultimate goal is to connect with and assist others through nostalgic and metaphysical themes.
Framed by “Awareness,” I delve into mental health intricacies, pushing creative boundaries across borders. I find solace in small moments, forging connections and emphasizing the nuanced interplay of awareness in his life.
Navigating the struggle between action and inaction has been my journey through various jobs, part-time education, and a bold leap to Japan. Moments of burnout, self-doubt, and fear of failure showcase the spectrum of inaction that has challenged me. So, through my artistic endeavors I convey my life’s journey, addressing mental health and existential contemplations.
My art has become a conduit for conveying emotions of nostalgia and loneliness, connecting with others who share similar feelings. Ambitiously, I aim to forge a connection between design and mental health over the next decade.
Then looking ahead passed the next decade, I want to advocate for mental health awareness through creating art without constraint. My overarching dream for my art involves crafting a new gestalt that positively impacts viewers’ mental health, intertwining design with profound understanding. This journey serves as the ultimate reward, a shaping narrative spanning decades, leaving a lasting impression on both me and my community.
As I am now, and as I will always be, I am someone who has a connection to nostalgia-based works as they are a window into the individual. This window to the self is a viewing experience that can connect to others through shared experiences. Thus, through this connection make an impact on others. I feel everyone has different lives, but when viewing others’ experiences, we can gain something about ourselves. So as a foreigner living in Japan, I am someone bringing my experience to my new community.
